Reflections of an 8th grade Intern!

I’ve always wanted to be a middle school teacher and I have also wanted to teach history. When I got the chance to teach Eighth grade History at North Richland Middle School I was very excited but I was a little bit nervous. I had always heard people say that middle school students were crazy and difficult to teach but I didn’t worry about that.

The first day that I went I was shy and not sure if this is what I was wanted to do but thought I should give it a chance. The first few days I would just grade papers and take roll and not talk that much but by the two week I was already doing lesson in front of the class and would also help my teacher with lessons.

Lately I have been writing my own lessons and teaching them to the class. My last lesson, my students wrote a rap over the Declaration of Independence  and presented them to the whole class, they had a great time doing it. To me it seems like my students are really interested in what I have been teaching them and enjoy it as well! I often ask myself why do people tell me not to teach middle school, I have such a great time teaching them. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t have a smile on my face when I leave that class. I have no doubt in my mind that this is what I will be doing in the future.
